17 May 2017

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) commends the Order issued by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the esteemed Prime Minister, to continue the doubling of disbursement of social assistance allocations to social security beneficiaries and the doubling of disbursement of disability allocations on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan, aiming to alleviate the burden of living on Bahraini families with limited income within the framework of providing an umbrella of social protection and a decent life for citizens.  The NIHR also commends His Highness’s delegation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development to take necessary measures in order to provide social protection and decent life for citizens in compliance with the laws and regulations in force in this regard.

The NIHR, based upon its terms of reference and goals, appreciates the role adopted by the honorable government in respect of the social human rights enshrined in the constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, especially Article (5) paragraph (b), which states that “the State shall ensure the realization of necessary social security for citizens in case of old age, sickness, disability to work, orphanage, widowhood or unemployment, and shall provide them with social insurance and healthcare services and protect them against ignorance, fear and poverty”.

The NIHR stresses that the State’s embrace to its citizens and positive stand with them in the holy month confirm the political leadership’s keenness on respecting and promoting their rights
